"Self-portraiture wasn't ever a consideration of mine. The idea seemed strange at first due to its nature. Most people who know me closely are aware that I don't particularly enjoy having my picture taken. I approached self-portraiture in the same manner I would with any other artwork, by conceptualizing, adding depth the way narrative functions in subtle ways through sculptural work. With this particular series Pageantry & Splendor, I was inspired with the idea of history and culture written with thread, based on the novel Splendor & Pageantry. The book served conceptually with the notion of arcane embroideries, the vestments, and the idea of an underground museum which houses the sacred artifacts."
