Nevermore

Nevermore was included within the prestigious publication Atlante dell'Arte Contemporanea (Atlas of Contemporary Art) Patron of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The artwork was selected by the Start Group Corporate's council of curators and art critics. Two inaugural events were planned to coincide with the book launch. The first in Florence at the Teatro-Libreria Giunti Odeon and the second at The MET in New York. Nevermore is also featured in the article Adamo Macri: Sculpting Stories through Multimedia Art published by The Art Insight.

“I think you took great and usual care in the creation of this stunning and complex portrait, Adamo, to produce the desire "effect," which is a complicated amalgam of emotion and technique. Just as Poe, to produce the effects he wanted, took great care in putting together elements of "The Raven" which wasn't written in a wild frenzy. As he says in his Philosophy of Composition: "It is my design to render it manifest that no one point in its composition is referrible either to accident or intuition — that the work proceeded, step by step, to its completion with the precision and rigid consequence of a mathematical problem." By mathematical he doesn't mean cold-hearted and merely calculated, but everything passionate and involved, arising from an acute understanding of how things work together and produce such powerful responses to the art. If I may be presumptuous and speak for the dead, Poe would admire this interpretation because it enters and reflects the heart and soul of his conception and method. My deepest congratulations, Sir.”
~ Kenneth Radu (Canadian writer)

"Even when he doesn’t incorporate sunglasses, Macri often applies such adroit and complicated make-up around the eyes that arguably it serves the same purpose. This is no where more evident than in the haunting, even frightening, portrait entitled Nevermore, inspired by Poe’s poem The Raven. Rarely do we get a picture of Macri’s unadorned or uncovered eyes looking straight at the viewer. When we do, the direct gaze has such a discombobulating effect on me (and surely I am not alone in this regard) that I avert my own eyes from his penetrating, dare I say invasive, stare."

“To end my own speculations, I compare it with the previous portraits to demonstrate Macri’s masterful handling of the depths and implications of the colour black, as well as illustrating his range of effects and narrative art. In Nevermore, we are in the territory of Goya’s Black Paintings.”

“Ooh top 5 for me. Something like that inspires music to me.”

“This portrait is haunting in ways that defy description. More intense than just rapping on a chamber door in the dark of night. I remember your "Raven".. just as stark and visually intense as reading the poem. That same shock to the senses.. brilliant and creepy!”
~ Theresa Pope Church (American scientist)

“Dark. Magnificently dark. "For beauty is the beginning of terror we are just able to endure." - Rainer Maria Rilke.”
~ Bob Boldt (American artist, writer, poet, film/video maker)

“Dali was fond of making faces from landscapes. I've always found it merely cute. Adamo's art makes landscapes within and around his face. He is a magician! His mere presence in these metaphysical portraits leaves no question unaddressed. He answers all questions. Evermore!”
~ Bob Boldt (American artist, writer, poet, film/video maker)

“When I choose specific stories, whether Shakespearian or a poem by Edgar Allen Poe, my goal is to paint an allegorical picture of it. To address as many characters in the plot as possible, as well as the setting, atmosphere, color palette, and all that consideration goes into one image with a single person in the frame. In the piece, I, the model, represent the content, including the animal, such as a raven.”
