"I admire Macri's sense of the meaning of colour, as well as the exceptional pose and poise, equal to that in another recent portrait SPOct19, which is imbued with the same ochre and golden sand. One striking difference between them (not the only one) is that the head in SPOct19 is completely human. However mysterious the person in this portrait may be, I fancy that Macri has taken and blended him with a creature of the sea, giving him a mouth I have never seen before.”
