Exuviae 2023
The idea for Exuviae, an ongoing project, was originally drafted on paper in the early 90's. Soon after, sculptural work began, and in 2005 actual photography of the work started to be developed. The first Exuviae video was created in 2011 using dated equipment and technical limitations at a low resolution. Exuviae 2023 is the second iteration.
Exuviae is an allegorical piece that explores the elegance and sophistication of nature. A visual narrative told through images, set in a flourishing but potentially deceptive environment. A personalized ecosystem, constructed with a multitude of sculptural works, created, then photographed. Collectively forming an organic, abstract, biological plantation.

“Adamo Macri is an exceptional artist. I've worked with over 12 Oscar winners in the film industry and I am not easily impressed. He's a Salvador Dalí-essence.. I'm bedazzled by his visuals, his eloquence. I am certain this is the kind of thing you will embrace. This guy needs to be a household name.”
~ Alex Monty Canawati (Filmmaker 20th Century Studios)

“Your exceptional images always open the windows to the unconscious, the very foundations in Nature (and Human Nature) upon which the Muses based our Art.”
~ Bob Boldt (American artist, writer, poet, film/video maker)

“I imagined myself inside an Alien World - exploring the native fauna and discovering the precise moment of emergence of one of the life forms there. So much more than that, as well. I am overwhelmed.”
~ Theresa Pope Church (American scientist)

“Evocative of so many things: pure poetry. Something about the classical world in this. Roman maybe, ancient. Emerging satyr.”
~ John Devlin (Visual artist)

“I've been looking at the Exuviae video, the large number of images are overwhelming. While I usually find a deep erotic undercurrent, tied with horror at times, here you combine and present such a complex, rich world of intellectual beauty, gritty juxtapositions, that it needs time to fully appreciate what you've created!”
~ Peter Togni (Yale University)

“Awesome. I'll be rewatching this one a number of times before I get all of the feelings involved. Delightful, quantum jumping production; intriguing, loaded with information in such gentle and soothing symmetry.”
~ John Felice Ceprano (Ottawa rock sculptor, painter)

“I've seen the video and can say that I'm overwhelmed by the sound/music and the many fascinating impressions. Many images created immediate associations for me. At the very beginning of the video, in various images, undetermined matter oozes out of nowhere or in a kind of ejaculation, creates the basis for a sphere that develops in the video. Later, for example, I see the dancing dervishes from Konya and have the feeling that the video could lead me, as a viewer, into a kind of trance, just as the dervishes achieve through their dance. I'm just thrilled and will watch the video more often and let myself be absorbed by it.”
~ Anton Lechner (Artist, Germany, RWTH Aachen University)

“Art comes in many different forms. Anything that makes you stop and draws you in, regardless of the reason/s, is a triumph. If it connects and engages someone’s attention and curiosity in some way with someone, then isn’t that the true barometer as to the success of a creative output? Adamo Macri‘s work always seems to draw me in. Surreal, akin to a dreamscape, never quite certain of what you’re the voyeur of. Illusive, yet magnetic and can’t look away. I see the work splintered with metaphors, but that is likely to be purely subjective on my part, but again, isn’t that the whole point of art, in that it speaks to each of us uniquely or not at all. Beautiful, ethereal, unsettling, unresolved.. Bravo Adamo!”

“Just watched Adamo, love it. To me your works have become more hauntingly disturbing. Somehow more acute in their depth and the reaching of our emotion. They exist in that ephemeral space, a dream world we all hope to achieve. Thank you it’s beautiful.”
~ Alison Williams (Visual artist, filmmaker, curator, Port Elizabeth South Africa)

“Adamo Macri's art constitutes a remarkable and enduring presence within the contemporary art landscape, akin to an illuminating lighthouse heralding the epitome of genuine craftsmanship. His artistic vision is singular and possesses the capacity to transport individuals into a boundless realm of imagination and contemplative meandering. In the case of "Exuviae," Macri's virtuosity shines brilliantly, as it unfolds a paradigmatic manifestation of his brilliance and talent. Within this masterwork, dimensions, proportions, contours, and chromaticity converge and diverge, igniting an infinite cosmos of exploration and potentiality for the discerning spectator, who is invited to embark upon an intellectual odyssey.”
~ Yorgos Papadopoulos (Psychologist, Dráma Greece)

“To me this was a story about skewing perception and perspective. (My mental vision details are mind blowing). The music really helps provide a sense of melancholy and added emotion to things that normally wouldn’t especially with the tones and textures. Overall it made me feel like I went swimming inside a Picasso painting to the soundtrack of a Stanley Kubrick movies! Congratulations, amazing work of art!”
